Still - an absolutely excellent acquisition, should be one of the jewels in the Crown and hopefully if he has a good first season with us will send a little message out to some other Bundesliga lads that we might be a more fun venture than Bayern.

A club in a strong spot strengthening by buying one of the best young players around.

Us getting Wirtz is like Bayern picking up Götze (think of how highly rated he was at the time, not his injury-plagued career) from Dortmund or Man United picking up Rooney from Everton.

This is a big, big transfer and yes - he is that good.

Still has time to bulk up as well - his greatest weakness is probably sheer physical strength, which is lacking a bit - but he still has some Terrier to him despite that.

He got loads of turnovers for Leverkusen even though that side didn't press as hard+high up the pitch as you might first think, has a lot of progressive touches into the final third despite often playing in the final third himself, is ridiculously two-footed when dribbling, assists galore, variety of finishes, energy......he is going to be an absolute treat.

Worth noting the amount of touches he gets as well. BOBPAISLEYFAN recently said about stats and requiring context (which is true!) and Wirtz gets a Hell of a lot of touches - but the interesting bit is if you look at most of the lads ahead of Wirtz in the top five Leagues that are touching the ball a lot, they're all centre-backs and defensive mids - players who will be padding their touch numbers massively by starting play off, or maintaining possession. Wirtz is getting high numbers whilst playing high up the pitch - really exciting.

Sensible thing for us to do would be to utilise a 4-2-3-1 and have him as that "10" as our main option, but we could potentially (depending on the opposition) use him as the left-winger, use him as a false nine, use him as an 8 in a 4-3-3 or even use him in the left channel in a 3-4-3 if we wanted to set up that way occasionally.

The big fear is always a bad injury given the outlay - so many eggs in one basket etc - but he is going to be something else.

If we did decide to use him in a false nine for any matches, then with Kerkez (if he comes) and Frimpong on the flanks, we could see something not unlike the set-up we had under Klopp when Robertson, Trent and Firmino were at their peak.

There's a lot to look forward to.

Florian Wirtz will fit into existing Liverpool wage structure when he signs. He will be on €12m a year which can rise to €15m a year if individual and team performance targets are met. That’s £10.2m to £12.7m a year or between £195,000 and maximum £245,000 a week.
