    The press and counter press

I know I know but it has gone to absolute shit, were maybe the worst in the league at it right now, we’re nowhere near a good press and counter press

We let every team transition far too easily and then run with it towards our goal with runners and no pressure on the ball

They all HAVE to watch the Boxing day game away at Leicester in 2019, see how we are man for man, how we are directing each other where and who to pick up and press

See how we use that to force them to try and play the ball in certain areas, setting traps to win it in those areas in their half and attack their weak area being very direct taking the shortest route to goal in as few passes possible

That in itself makes a massive difference as it hones players ability to make the right runs and to play the ball for the assist or before the assist as we’re attempting it far more each game

What's needed is Fabinho in front of the back 4 to keep it together.

We're unbeaten in our last 6 in all comps, with 3 clean sheets and two of the other 3 games having us concede "only" once - obviously would rather we didn't concede at all, but still. Green shoots.

Whilst we should always strive for bigger and better things, I'll content myself with this current, centrally packed set-up for a while (with less focus on the press) if it continues to yield results.

We needed to stop the rot and we have. We probably can't evolve into the next step quickly/smoothly so will need to build incrementally.

Our primary concerns have to be defensive solidity, edging closer to the Champion's League spots (level now with Chelsea, can hopefully reign someone above them in a bit at some point) and getting ourselves into a position where we can have a decent campaign in the Champion's League knockout rounds, whatever the style of play is.

Nah Lucas Levia was the best player in that position according to Ninexteenx.. I think we both agree in the first 3 years of his career Fabinho was outstanding. until he went to shit. Legs went for all that running he did.

I'd give a shit Fabinho 20 minutes, at the minute to give Grav and Mac a rest at times 🤣

Any stats on the matter of pressing under counterpressing.

Heres some from last season. But these stats are often behind pay walls.

From the bits I've heard of TAW we are doing the same off the ball work but not converting those presses into tackles and intercepts at the same rate.

We’re nowhere near a good press and counter press we couldn’t even be effective in it against 9 mannSpurs 😂

Got to ask what games ppl watch how is you recognition of patterns in teams play and how they collectively press and counter press

It is undeniable that the best 3 teams in the league in the press and counter press are currently Arsenal, City and Villa thry sit 1st 2nd & 3rd a score a number of goals though?

Winning it back high in the opposition half and going directly to goal in as few passes as possible from a position opponents aren’t prepared for usually with their left or right forward

The game changed, yeah right, get tae fuck
