I know I know but it has gone to absolute shit, were maybe the worst in the league at it right now, we’re nowhere near a good press and counter press
We let every team transition far too easily and then run with it towards our goal with runners and no pressure on the ball
They all HAVE to watch the Boxing day game away at Leicester in 2019, see how we are man for man, how we are directing each other where and who to pick up and press
See how we use that to force them to try and play the ball in certain areas, setting traps to win it in those areas in their half and attack their weak area being very direct taking the shortest route to goal in as few passes possible
That in itself makes a massive difference as it hones players ability to make the right runs and to play the ball for the assist or before the assist as we’re attempting it far more each game
"If Everton were playing at the bottom of my garden, i'd close the curtains”
will you shut the shite up about this?? over and over and over again about it
Cleaning up the Scots since the 13th century
What's needed is Fabinho in front of the back 4 to keep it together.
We're unbeaten in our last 6 in all comps, with 3 clean sheets and two of the other 3 games having us concede "only" once - obviously would rather we didn't concede at all, but still. Green shoots.
Whilst we should always strive for bigger and better things, I'll content myself with this current, centrally packed set-up for a while (with less focus on the press) if it continues to yield results.
We needed to stop the rot and we have. We probably can't evolve into the next step quickly/smoothly so will need to build incrementally.
Our primary concerns have to be defensive solidity, edging closer to the Champion's League spots (level now with Chelsea, can hopefully reign someone above them in a bit at some point) and getting ourselves into a position where we can have a decent campaign in the Champion's League knockout rounds, whatever the style of play is.
