Knowing we would be playing a big physical side in Palace, who even the first team struggle with, playing a load of little kids was unacceptable to me. We may as well have forfeited the game and saved everyone the time and money of filling the ground.

We might get some points off Villa, but can you imagine our defence/midfield coping with Madrid and then Haaland. Trent will unlock us every time he gets the ball.

Last season really was the dying throes of Jurgen's team and attitude. We don't have a coach capable of galvanising us, and neither do we really have the personnel to revert to the style that got us the title in the first place. The best we could do is reinstate the midfield trio and rotate the top three. If we have bench Wirtz to do it then we should.

Despite it only being the league cup and I can't imagine many fans are too bothered about that but it's the manner of it. That team was an absolute white flag, 6/7 defeats. He can't keep losing games.
