When we released Frimpong he was faced by 2 defenders and they had 5 in the box and we have 2 in there EXACTKY the same as it would have been if we released him whenever we could v Burnley except we consistently had too many in the box making our orb life more difficult

The two forward in those positions

Full backs and CBs don’t know who to pick up because they’re between the 2 and they can be released with a run between full back and centre back and a ball through the channel between their CB and RCB ir LCB

The players picking up in great position to join the attack or to quickly win it back you need on their first line not their back line

Releasing the wide players early like to got has them running towards their own goal

Pushing too many players in their box makes it harder for yourselves

Possession - 27%
Shots on goal - 5
Shots on target - 1
Alisson made 1 save against Burnley

Marseille vs LFC - Marseille stats

Possession - 58%
Shots on goal - 13
Shots on target - 4
Alisson made 4 saves against Marseille

Those are 2 very different games. The same tactics do not work for both.

How many times you could have released either Gakpo or Frimpong in acres to get in behind their defence but didn’t

How many times you tried to pass through Wirtz with no rotation of the 10’s

Nobody said it was ALL about stats but they help paint a picture of how the game played out. It's a starting point for discussion sometimes when there is disagreement.

Maybe you can tell us how many times we tried to pass through Wirtz tonight with no rotation of the 10s? Then compare that to how often it happened against Burnley. Then make a point.

Well I learnt from watching how Jurgen and other manager approach it, releasing your wide players early in behind them in the edge of their box is a basic as they are thrn running towards their own goal and your players have the run on. them to. E picked out

Not flooding their bs Kline with 4 or 5 players as it blocks your own lines and makes them congestion the box even more

Instead putting players picking up in their first line positioned to join the attack if it opens up like that or to quickly win the ball back if the attack breaks down - Really good because where you win it is a new point of attack they aren’t set for, then you pass it quickly and directly
